操作を誤ると Windows が起動しなくなる、ログオン不能になる、あるいは二度とデータにアクセス出来なくなるなどの致命的な不具合に遭遇するかも知れません。
以後の操作によって生じたいかなる損害も操作者の責任に帰するもので有ることを、ここに明記します。
Linux ベースで起動するこのユーティリティは、４段階のステップを経てパスワードをリセットします。
. Step ONE: Select disk where the Windows installation is

a = show all partitions, d = load new disk drivers
l = relist NTFS/FAT partitions, q = quit
Select: [1]
Windows システムがインストールされているハードディスクを指定します。ディスクが１台ならデフォルトで[1]が表示されているので enter で次に進みます。
. Step TWO: Select PATH and registry files

レジストリが置かれている PATH を指定します。デフォルトで良ければそのまま
enter で次に進みます。

パスワードリセットならそのまま enter で先に進みます。

or simply enter the username to change: [Administrator]
パソコンに登録されているユーザー一覧が administrator を含めて表示されます。デフォルトは administrator です。enter で先に進むと、新しいパスワードを聞いてきます。
* = blank the password (This may work better than setting a new password!)
Enter nothing to leave it unchanged

* を指定するとパスワードはブランクになります。これがお薦め設定のようです。なお、キーボード配列が英語版になっていますので、* は 8 のシフトで入力します。

書き換えの確認をしてきますので y で enter します。
続けて他のユーザーも変更するか聞いてきますので、次に進むなら ! で enter し、

実際に書き込むのかどうかの確認です。y で enter します。 書き込みにはしばらく時間が掛かります。

再度、実行するか聞いてきますが enter で先に進むと終了です。

が表示されたらフロッピーを抜き、Windows を再起動します。
これで administrator でパスワード無しでログオンできます。直後の起動時は
diskcheck が自動起動します。
なお、Step TWO で指定するレジストリが置かれている PATH は OS 毎に次の通りの様です。
